Phytochrome is a red-light and far-red-light receptor in plants and other organisms. Plants grown in the dark produce an abundance of phytochrome as they seek for a source of light to grow towards. Once a sufficiently light environment is found, the plants degrade most of the phytochrome. My work will involve genetic and biochemical methods to understand this process. In addition, I plan to characterize phytochrome mutants in planta.
